Help us celebrate the publication of a new book by Colgate professor Paul Lopes—Demanding Respect: The Evolution of the American Comic Book. Exploring how comic books in the 1930s were perceived as a “menace” in the 1950s, only to later become collectors’ items & eventually “hip” fiction in the 1980s, Lopes immerses himself in the discourse & practices of this art & subculture to provide a social history of the American comic book over the last 75 years.
I’ll be walking over after class, and any of you who are interested are welcome to come along.
